Brillante Weblog Premio Award
Thanks so much to Jaimesews for nominating me for the Brillante Weblog Premio Award!! Be sure to visit her blog and her Etsy store to see the beautiful blankets and quilts she has created.
Here are the rules for the nominees:
1) Add the logo of the award to your blog
2) Add a link to the person who awarded it to you
3) Nominate at least 7 other blogs
4) Add links to those blogs on your blog
5) Leave a message for your nominees on their blogs
Here are my nominees for fabulous and creative blogs:
Jen, or jkalea as she is known in the Etsy world, is not only a fantastically vibrant and fun person, but also creates amazing displays from ordinary baby items! Her "Baby Sushi" is probably my favorite, followed closely by the adorable "Baby Lollipops." Visit her blog for talented writing, and her store for fabulous creations!
Nicci of hullabalooboutique has a wonderful blog, and superb skill. Her designs for children's clothing are unique and stylish. She has chic creations for both boys and girls, and she is one of the finalists in the Etsy Handmade Kids Challenge! Be sure to vote for her darling entries!
Katie from The Giveaway has fabulous finds, and even more fantastic giveaways! Check out all the amazing opportunities she has to offer!
jkziel of ivyandmae has a collection of sweet children's clothing and accessories. Her other store, mamaziel, (also titled ivy and mae) has vibrant and fun designs sure to please any child's sensibilities!
Mamamade has seriously cute baby toys, gifts and clothes to offer the Etsy community. I'm sure I'll be visiting her for my next baby!!
Megan of KnitStyle makes the most beautiful cloth baby blocks I've ever seen! I bought a set for a friend's baby shower, and they are just as cute in person as they appear on her Etsy store - probably more so. She also offers eco-friendly bamboo fiberfill for the inside of the blocks.
Abby, half the genius behind Steals and Deals, has a wonderful blog dedicated to giving! Give-aways that is! Be sure to check out her blog for awesome reviews of wonderful products.
Green and Brown Pod Posey Clip
Here is the second design I created to coordinate with Michael Miller's Pod Posey line. This one is more of a classic hair clip for women or children. It is particularly suited for the French Barrette, but can also be made as a snap clip.

Pod Posey by Michael Miller
I'm currently working on a line of clips to match this adorable fabric by Michael Miller. It features vibrant "Pod Posey" flowers and vines against Espresso colored background. Julia has a darling dress coming in this fabric from the wonderful shop, hullabalooboutique.

Custom Hair Clips
There is little more satisfying than creating something unique for someone. I've been fortunate to have opportunities to create some custom hair clips for a few customers, and it is probably my favorite aspect of Etsy!
Here are examples of completely CUSTOM creations - someone asked, and I designed to their specifications:
Shrimp Hair Clip
My photo inspiration for the Shrimp Clip
Trick or Treat Witch with its inspiration outfit
Monkey Business Hair Clip
School Wise Owl and inspiration fabric

Recycled or Repurposed?
My newest creations were inspired by my husband! I received a cute English tea towel souvenir of Cape Cornwall from a colleague, and while I thought it was bright and cheerful, I had no idea what I was going to do with it. When my husband got home, I showed it to him, and he said, "Oh, you should turn that into clippies!" At once I envisioned cute fabric covered buttons from the scenes on the towel.
The towel is brand new 100% cotton, but I'm not sure how I would label these clips - is it repurposed fabric since the intended purpose was a tea towel (what IS a tea towel???), or is it recycled, since I've taken something and used it in a new creation...
Either way, I think they turned out seriously cute, and I'm going to use more of the towel in future creations. Perhaps I'll layer some of the fabric with some coordinating wool felt in the future..... hmmmmm.

Wholesale Hair Clips
Wow! I finally finished and boxed up a consignment order for a darling little gift boutique in Mariposa, California called "Chocolate Soup." 46 clips in all! It took me about 2 weeks total making them during nap time, and after Julia had gone to bed. Plus, I had gotten a bunch of regular orders the last 2 weeks, so that slowed me down a little too. I think if I had no other orders, I could have gotten them done in about a week, but that would probably be pushing it. Here is a photo of the lot before I boxed it up (not the best photo, but you get the idea!).
